Liturgical Ministries

While the primary way the faithful participate in the Holy Mass is through their prayerful presence as members of the congregation, liturgical ministries are sacred roles through which some laity assist at Mass. Whether proclaiming the Word of God as lectors, serving at the altar, bringing forward the gifts, or assisting in the distribution of Holy Communion, liturgical ministers help facilitate the full, conscious, and active participation of all God's people in the sacred liturgy.

Ushers

Ushers represent the community of the parish and function as hosts and hostesses.

The ushers’ role is to create an atmosphere of hospitality and friendliness among the members of the assembly, and to assist with various tasks throughout the Mass. It is crucial in helping people to shed the inhibitions and rigidity too long associated with “going to church.” Ushers also assist the other ministries in any way they can to create a reverent, welcoming environment. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer as an usher. Contact us

Altar Servers

Altar servers assist the priest at Mass by helping to set and clean up the altar, holding the Missal, and other tasks. They also create a space of reverence by processing with the cross and candles and providing an example to the congregation. Anyone who has received their First Holy Communion may volunteer to be an altar server.

Please contact us for more details about becoming a server.

Parish Masters of Ceremonies

The parish Master of Ceremonies (MC) is the person who is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing and coordinating the liturgical rites of the parish, especially those that are more complex, to ensure that they are celebrated faithfully.

This means that MCs must be familiar with the general and particular norms that govern liturgical celebrations and with their parish’s expression of these. The overall aim of liturgical directives is to facilitate the full, conscious and active participation of the whole assembly (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (1963) 14; General Instruction of the Roman Missal (2010) 18).

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist in the reverent and orderly distribution of Holy Communion “when the size of the congregation or the incapacity of the bishop, priest, or deacon requires it” (Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion under Both Kinds, 28). Their ministry is of great importance as it allows for Holy Communion to be received under both kinds and brought more readily to the sick and homebound.

Choir

The Choir assists in creating an atmosphere of reverence and worship by singing at the 10:30am Mass and Holy Days.

Lectors

The ministry of lectors carries the sacred duty of proclaiming God's Word during the Holy Mass. By reverently reading the Sacred Scriptures, lectors serve as instruments through which God speaks to His people gathered in worship. This ministry requires careful preparation, clear proclamation, and a deep respect for Sacred Scripture, as lectors help make the Word of God alive and active in the hearts of the faithful.
