May arrives with a kind of quiet splendor - flowers in full bloom, longer days filled with soft light, and the sense that the world is coming alive again. It is no surprise that the Church, attentive to both nature and grace, chose this month of beauty to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, the One in Whom God’s grace blossomed most perfectly. As May reflects life, growth, and renewal, Mary reflects the fullness of spiritual life: humility, purity, and a wholehearted “yes” to God. For centuries, the faithful have turned to Her this season with devotion, seeing in Her a model of what it means to receive and nurture Christ in our own lives. This devotion is deeply personal - because perhaps the most human thing about Jesus is that He loves His Mother, and if He loves Her, then we are not mistaken in loving her too. After all, as the Body of Christ, She is not only His mother, but ours as well.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.

On Monday, celebrating of the Year of St. Francis, the Altar Society made a beautiful pilgrimage to St. Francis of Assisi in Orem. The day was full of faith and fellowship, with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and quiet time spent in prayer and meditation. It was a meaningful opportunity to step away from routines and grow closer to God thru the example of St. Francis. The pilgrimage concluded with lunch. If you would like more info about the Altar Society or would like to join, contact the office.

Diocesan Development Drive
The Diocese of Salt Lake City has been blessed by the recent ordination of Kenneth Parsad. We are looking forward to the ordination of Jaime Zuazo and Jose Luis Gomez Diaz this summer. The education of these two men is due in part to the kindness and generosity of many parishioners who give annually to the Diocesan Development Drive. Please support our five seminarians by giving to the 2026 Diocesan Development Drive. Our quota this year is $157,200. There are DDD pledge forms on the table in the back of the church, you can do a one- time gift or make a pledge to support Church and community!

HAPPINESS
Apps to Help Make your Lent More Meaningful!
FORMED: The Catholic Faith “on-demand” with thousands of resources, including video studies, documentaries, movies, audiotalks, and children’s programming. Free for Catholics in the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
iBreviary: Highly recommended by Fr. Joseph! Simple and to the point. Priests and religious pray the Liturgy of the Hours every day. Add one of them (e.g., Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, etc.) to your daily routine. This is a classic choice for keeping a disciplined prayer life throughout Lent.
Laudate: A free, comprehensive app with daily Mass readings, Stations of the Cross, Rosary, prayers, multiple Bible versions, catechism, and more.
Hallow: Highly recommend by Mark Wahlberg, Liam Neeson and John Roumie. Stay prayed up!
Amen: Amen is the free Catholic app that brings you beautiful prayers, faithful meditations and nourishing Scripture to draw your mind, body and soul to rest in God.

Child Safety Tips:
Social Media Addiction
1.Delay and Discern Platform Use as long as prudently possible.
2. Use Parental Controls: Enable built-in controls. Set time limits. Disable in-app purchases and restrict app downloads.
3.Clear Family Technology Norms: No devices in bedrooms overnight, during homework, family time, meals, including restaurants. Parents must know all passwords.
4.Teach Digital Literacy: Nothing online is truly private; never share personal images to strangers; images are often manipulated; comparison culture harms mental health.
5.Foster Real-World Anchors: Maintaining a fulfilling real world life - family meals, real friendships, activities, and volunteering - helps protect from social media harm. A strong sense of identity, belonging, and purpose makes kids less likely to seek validation online.

Child Safety Tip: Counter Grooming
Child Safety Tip: Counter Grooming
Predators often groom victims by
making them feel embarrassed or
complicit in bad behavior. Parents
and responsible adults can counter
this directly by telling their kids “If
anyone, especially someone older,
ever makes you feel weird or confused, that’s not your fault. You can always tell us. You will never get in trouble for it if you tell us. We can protect you no matter what they say.” Normalizing talk about these important topics helps children reveal important information about potential dangers. -

Confession Guide
Preparation Before Confession:
Examine your conscience carefully. Use the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, or a suitable guide as a framework before you enter confession.
Core principles
Grave sins first - kind and approximate number.
Patterns or habitual sins. “I’ve always been that way, Father!” is not an excuse. It is the sin of despair, presuming Christ can’t free you from it.
Include sins of omission, what you failed to do. The spiritual life is more than avoiding sins, especially one particular sin. The spiritual life is a full life.
Be specific, but not excessive.
Things to Avoid
Justifying your actions; Excessive details; Blaming others; Storytelling; Vague language (Lust, Wrath, Pride). If you’re using your phone or notes, have it ready before you enter confessional.
Don’t try to impress the priest: this always backfires!
The Priest
Priests are people, too. If you are nervous or don’t know what to do, the priest will help you. If it’s been a while, the priest is usually just happy that you’re back. Also, be considerate. If confession ends at 4 pm, don’t show up at 3:59 pm and think you have all the time you want. Priests also likes to plan their day.
A Final Encouragement
Confession is not a performance or interrogation—it is an encounter with Christ’s mercy. The priest acts in persona Christi, receiving you not as a judge eager to condemn, but as a physician ready to heal.
A clear, humble confession—however imperfect—is always pleasing to God.
